Kingston Cafe

This hidden gem of a coffee shop has very tasty food and nice friendly service. It’s owned by a husband & wife team who have made the place way more appealing than the chains. Everything is organic and they have fresh sandwiches, soups, salads, breakfast sandwiches and a good variety of organic hot drinks (e.g. chai latte, hot chocolate) and cold drinks (e.g., cold brewed coffee). $1 cookies too. Note that they are open early (6 am) but closed Sundays (bummer).

It’s not that far off Hwy 101 (if you know how to get there … take the 3rd Ave exit as shown on the map below). Free off-street parking (big lot to the north) and wi-fi. While you are in the area check out the good little Mexican take-out place, El Palenque Taqueria, next door.

This large local book store is a rarity.  It’s been around for many decades and continues to do a good job of competing with the chains and internet.  Good selection and service. An adjacent deli has a nice patio for relaxing and reading.

Definitely a  favorite of the locals, especially since almost all of the local book stores in Palo Alto have been wiped out.

A very good gourmet coffee stand run by two ultra-marathoners who definitely know their coffee. And, its located inside an excellent running store. Hours are 10 am-2 pm or later depending on the day. Popular with the locals looking for a good expresso.

Very nice & casual outdoor patio with an ocean view. Good coffee and bagels. Neighborhood coffee shop that is closed Sundays and after 4 pm.

A good Gherkins Sandwich Shop (171 7th St/Hwy 1, 650-728-2211) with outside seating and a new Fish & Chip Shop are also nearby if you want something more to eat.

Yoda at Lucas Film Headquarters. Star Wars artifacts can be found in the room immediately behind the statue.

The Lucasfilm office campus is located here at  Letterman Digital Arts Center across the street from the Palace of Fine Arts. Don’t miss the Yoda statue and Star Wars artifacts (in the lobby behind Yoda) at the northeast corner of campus (see map below for exact location since it’s a bit hard to find).  Enthusiasts from around the world come to see them.

There is also a great “hidden” park on the campus.  It includes 17 acres of beautifully landscaped public space and even a Starbucks coffee shop to enjoy.

A small shop but has both inside and outside seating

This coffee shop is grand indeed! It is a small 1-person shop with great Mission Street ambiance and pleasant service. The Four Barrel gourmet coffee is outstanding as well.
