Back A Yard Caribbean Grill, Menlo Park
by Mike S
(San Mateo)
Very, very tasty grilled Caribbean food at reasonable prices. The jerk pork, oxtails, and fried bread (called corn festivals) are great examples. Spicing is excellent and not too strong.
Located in an inexpensive storefront with a big counter where you order and seating for 28 max. Not a place for impressing someone, but rather for enjoying excellent and slightly exotic tasting food that doesn't break the bank.
Owned by a Jamaican Chef who has worked at several major Caribbean resorts and big American hotels and who definitely knows how to cook. He also owns Coconuts Carribean Restaurant & Bar, 642 Ramona St, Palo Alto, a more upscale place but with similar food.
Location: 1189 Willow Rd/Newbridge St, Menlo Park, one block east of Hwy 101.
Menu: Jamaican jerk meat, American BBQ, fried fish, sandwiches, and salads.
Phone: (650)323-4244. It may save you some time to call ahead.
Parking: Tight. They do have a parking lot at Newbridge St/Carlton Ave one block north of Willow Rd.
Hours: Closed Sundays. Open for lunch & dinner the rest of the week.
