Treat Ice Cream Company
The best ice cream in San Jose, CA
It’s not an ice cream parlor … it’s a 50 year old ice cream company located in a little hidden warehouse. Here you can buy direct from the factory some of the best ice cream in the San Francisco Bay area … but only on weekdays.
It’s an adventure to get there but the reward is well worth it. Here are some useful tips.
- Open weekdays only, Mon-Fri 7:30 am – 4 pm.
- You can only buy ice cream by the 1.5 quart tub, for about $6 (cash only).
- It’s across 19th Street from the Wienerschnitzel located at E Santa Clara St and 19th St (about 10 blocks west of San Jose State and 10 blocks east of Hwy 101)
- To actually find the entry door, at 11 S 19th Street, first go to the back parking lot of the Wienerschnitzel at E Santa Clara St and 19th Street. Look across 19th St and you’ll see a little alley and parking lot where Treat is located. Sometimes the ice cream trucks are parked back there. Walk across 19th St, walk deep into the parking lot and look for the Treat Ice Cream Co. sign. Enter the door (it looks like the back door of a restaurant) and you’ll see a list of flavors on the right. Wait or call for service.
You can also buy Treat’s at various ice cream parlors and supermarkets. We’ve enjoyed our first Treat ice cream at Niles Ice Cream, 37699 Niles Blvd, in Niles. We’ve heard it’s also available at the Willow Glen Froyo, Palo Alto Creamery, Lunardi’s Markets under the Lunardi label (they are Treat’s biggest customer), and Tuckers Ice Cream in Alameda.
