Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum, San Jose

by Steven
(Santa Clara, CA)

This small old Egyptian museum is one of the most unique things to see in all of San Jose, especially for locals. I like it better than the much more commercial Winchester House. Cheaper too.

It's off the beaten path, for sure, so is very easy to miss. I lived few blocks away and didn't even know it was there for a couple of years.

Check out www.egyptianmuseum.org for details.

See the planetarium too!
by: Mike

With your paid museum admission ($9 adults) you can also get free admission to a 35 minute planetarium show at 2 pm.

These are both part of a nice little "Peace Park" which includes a museum, planetarium, library, garden, and Rosicrucian temple ... all open at different times.

More things to do near Rosicrucian Museum

For a big change of scenery after you've seen the Egyptian Museum (1342 Naglee Ave) here are some very nice nearby gardens which are great for a walk or picnic:

- The San Jose Municipal Rose Garden (Naglee Ave/Dana Ave).
- San Jose Heritage Rose Garden (Spring St/Taylor St)
- Guadalupe River Park (438 Coleman Ave, just south of and adjacent to the SJ Heritage Rose Garden).

A good way to get to the Egyptian Museum and to these different gardens is by taking The Alameda southwest off Hwy 880. In about 5 blocks you can turn right at Naglee Ave (for the Museum & Municipal Rose Garden) or left at Taylor St (for Heritage Rose Garden & Guadalupe River Park). Check a map if you have any questions about these directions.
