Magnificent Russian Cathedral in San Francisco

by George
(San Francisco)

The Holy Virgin Russian Orthodox Cathedral is one of the most interesting and splendid churches you will find anywhere in the world. You would never expect such a "find" way out on dreary, commercial Geary Street in San Francisco.

The interior is not big but unusually ornate & beautiful ... well worth seeing for it's unique artistry. That's real gold on the domes outside and real silver on the many ornate icons inside. The traditional service rituals are impressive too including the candle lighting, ministerial garb, and respectful atmosphere.

When daily services are in session (8 am, 6 pm) there is a dress code and no photography is allowed. Normally you stand through the entire service; there are no pews except for a few in back for the disabled. Headquarters of the Archbishop of San Francisco and Western America.

Address: 6210 Geary Blvd/26th Ave, San Francisco
