Dinner at Gary Danko's in SF

by Anne
(San Mateo)

For a VERY special occasion recently, we decided to try Gary Danko's. Several "foodie" friends have described visiting this high-end San Francisco restaurant as a great experience on every dimension.

I called on May 15, two weeks before the special day thinking that would be plenty of time for a reservation on the weekend I wanted. Silly me. The first available weekend date available was on June 20th, more than a month in the future.

Come June 20th, we enjoyed a nice afternoon in the City and by 5:00 pm were ready to sit down. Our reservations were for the first seating at 5:30 pm so we were surprised to find the restaurant already open, and we were pleasantly ushered inside. The decor is beautiful, and staff was extremely pleasant and polite. Sometimes high-end restaurants miss on the customer service side so you end up treated like a visiting poor relative. This was not the case here at all.

Oh, and yes, the food was magical. We ordered the five and four course meal all with different dishes so we both could try nine different items. We enjoyed them all, but especially the beef filet and the chocolate souffle desert. Next time we might order more deserts, rather than one to share.

This was pricey, but such a great experience I can't wait to go again!
