This community junior college is also known as CSM or San Mateo Jr College.
Just walking around this beautiful 153 acre campus (note: dogs are allowed) and looking at the panoramic views is fun to do. Here on Saturday mornings, 9 am-1 pm rain or shine, you can also find one of the best Farmers Markets in the Bay area. Check out the very nice library as well, a very nice planetarium, and the most scenic football field around.
Many famous athletes played football here including Bill Walsh (quarterback), John Madden (line) and O.J. Simpson (running back). The football team is almost always one of the top teams in the state (ranked #1 in the state Oct 2014 and #6 in the nation in 2013) and attending games is a pleasant way to leisurely enjoy an Autumn afternoon. Replays are on internet TV at BAOSN.tv. See the athletic schedule for the next football game and other sport events.
Other sports are outstanding too. For example, in May 2015 the Women’s Softball Team won 40 straight games without a loss to go to State Finals and the Men’s Baseball Team advanced to the final round of the Regional Playoffs. The Women’s & Men’s Track & Field State Championships are also scheduled at CSM’s beautiful College Height’s Stadium in mid-May.
KCSM Jazz 31 (click here for their 24 hour live music) is among the top 35 “most listened to” non-commercial stations in the U.S. Every year (check hiddenSF Events about June) they put on an excellent, free Jazz on The Hill festival which over 5,000 people attend.
The event calendar is full of other events as well, especially academic events during the school year. But if you look carefully you can also find such activities as free planetarium shows every second Friday evening and free drop-in coding, crafting & tinkering workshops at the library Makerspace.
