Breakfast at Boogaloos in the Mission district, San Francisco

See the

See the "druggist" sign

We've often seen dozens of people standing about this corner at Valencia St/22d St but never understood what the big deal was. The sign on the old building said it was a druggist??? But it's not; it is Boogaloos, where we recently had a great brunch experience. Very interesting atmosphere and food dishes, which are mainly American but with a vegetarian and Mexican flair.

I ordered sourdough french toast and a side of grilled polenta. Both were fantastic! The polenta was placed over salsa and sprinkled with feta cheese which was different but really worked well together. My friends ordered the Boogaloo Classic -- "2 eggs any style, homefries and a biscuit smothered in vegetarian herb-cream gravy, topped with green onions" -- and just gulped it down.

While waiting for our friends we walked a half block north to Ritual Coffee Roasters, 1026 Valencia St. The latte was excellent and the line was slow, as reputed.

Boogaloos Location: 3296 22nd St/Valencia St, SF.
