Santana Row, San Jose, CA
it feels almost like “Las Vegas”
The combined attraction of Santana Row and Westfield Valley Fair Mall make it the most popular shopping area in San Jose. These two centers are centrally located, right across Stevens Creek Blvd from each other, at the northeast corner of Hwy 280 and Hwy 17. See local map and area map
Since San Jose is the 10th largest city in the U.S. (SF is #14) and also has one of the highest disposable incomes, you can be sure a lot of money is spent here. Expect to be able to buy anything you want. Santana Row is smaller, newer, and has high-end shops such as Gucci. Westfield Valley Fair Mall across the street is one of the largest malls in Northern California with over 225 retail stores.

Santana Row is an multi-use complex featuring upscale shopping, dining, and entertainment. Over 600 residential units and one of San Jose’s finest hotels, Hotel Valencia Santana Row, are a part of the mix too. The motif is open-air boulevards in an elegant old world European style. It is very pleasant and quite unique place to be, especially for suburban town like San Jose.
We usually go just to relax… to stroll the boulevards, sit outside, drink coffee, and to window shop at higher-end stores such as Gucci, Salvatore Ferragomo shoes, Burberry, and Tourneau watches. For male entertainment, check out the Tesla Motors Showroom or take it easy at the Cohiba Cigar Lounge with a too expensive cigar. (Note: There are several mid-range shops as well and, of course, Valley Fair is just across the street for those who prefer even more shopping.) Most of our SF Peninsula friends agree that the atmosphere is a quick refreshing change from suburbia.
Saturday evenings are fun for people watching since Santana Row seems to be a safe place where the good-looking younger crowd go to see and be seen. Besides the Clubs (which you can find by the lines outside) Yard House and Hot Tamales are popular hangouts for drink and food.
Santana Row restaurants are plentiful, usually mid-priced, and nothing exceptional; nonetheless, the experience is usually pleasant. For example, breakfast at Santana Row at the Village California Bistro is a good bet and you can get a lot of atmosphere and food at Maggiano’s Little Italy. For snacks, Cocala Bakery & Pinkberry are popular and there is a Peet’s across from the hi-tech art-film theater, CineArts.
