Cafe Gibraltar, El Granada, CA
fine “hidden” dining on Half Moon Bay Coast
Sorry, now permanently CLOSED.
Cafe Gibraltar in El Granada is one of the finest eating establishments on the Half Moon Bay Coast. It has outstanding ratings and reviews, yet only HMB area locals seem to know how to find it. (See map below).
That may be a good thing since this restaurant has been packed every time we visit. Reservations are definitely recommended and even then you sometimes must wait. Also, it’s somewhat expensive.
The Mediterranean cuisine is quite fresh, tasty and unique. You can tell the place is owned by a chef. We’ve especially enjoyed the roasted bison and the braised lamb shank entrees and the octopus & calamari salad. Wines and desserts are excellent too.
Once inside the atmosphere is quite pleasing. If you would like a novel experience they even have a few tables where you can sit on the floor, Mediterranean style, if you wish (warning … sitting on the floor can make your legs stiff; once, only, was fun for us). Service has always been exceptionally pleasing adding to the dining experience, even the one time we had to stand and wait 30 minutes past our reservation time.
Hours: Dinner hours only. Open Tue-Thu, Sun 5 pm – 9 pm. Fri-Sat 5 pm – 9:45 pm Fri-Sat. Closed Mondays.
